We were established in 1974 to provide fire protection in the unincorporated areas of Washoe County known as the Truckee Meadows. Over the years our manning has expanded from 12 line personnel to 75 line personnel when we are at full complement. Our area has expanded from the regional Truckee Meadows of 200 sq. miles to a larger area of over 550 sq. miles. Our services have gone from strictly fire protection to fire protection, EMS Hazmat and Technical rescue.
