Comstock Firemen's Museum

Built in the early 1860s, the building housed several businesses and later served as the station house for the Storey County Volunteer Fire Department until 1962.  On July 4, 1979, the Nevada State Fire and Comstock Firemen's Museum opened its doors in this  old brewery-saloon which had served as the first firehouse for mechanized equipment on the Comstock.  In 1986, the museum was formally designated the Nevada State Firemen's Museum.  Members of the Virginia City Volunteer Fire Department restored and maintain the building.

Housed inside are hand engines, a ladder wagon, hose carriages, uniforms, belts, helmets and other artifacts relating to the era when the firemen of Virginia City and Gold Hill wore red shirts and leather helmets and moved lively to the engine company's foreman to "Jump Her Lively, Boys!"

Our museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, Memorial Day through Labor Day, and from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting, April-May and September-October.  Please stop by and see us!
